How to succeed in your internship?
Many people are faced with the challenge of immersing themselves in the world of a company, either to showcase the skills acquired during their studies or simply to explore a potential career path. As the days approach, numerous questions arise. You’re pondering how you’ll complete your internship. We’ve compiled a top 10 list of things to do and not to miss to ensure your internship is a success.

Do your research
Don’t wait until the last minute to learn about the company itself, its history, its values, and the various projects it undertakes. The more you know about the company, the more it will appreciate your interest and invest in your success. Don’t hesitate to do some online research and ask your network if they are familiar with the services your internship location offers, even if they are unrelated to your assigned department.
Get ready
Review your coursework and refresh your knowledge relevant to your future profession. Arriving with a solid foundation of skills and knowledge, despite limited professional experience, will encourage your employer and internship supervisor to grant you greater autonomy in the tasks you undertake. Don’t forget to define your objectives for this period as well.
Make a good impression
Don’t show up empty-handed; demonstrate your determination. Ask beforehand during your interview to find out if the company has a dress code. If not, don’t show up in your best tracksuit, but try to dress like a regular employee. Be mindful of your language; avoid swearing or overly informal language. You’re here to learn, but also to make a good impression. Making a good impression might lead to a job offer at the end of your internship, or it will allow employers to highlight your attitude and achievements when they contact your previous bosses.
Stay in your place
Taking initiative and showcasing your skills is great, but be careful not to offend those who have already spent a few years in the field. They might become defensive and certainly wouldn’t appreciate an intern who hasn’t yet graduated teaching them their job. So do what you know, but don’t question the expertise of your colleagues and superiors.
Get organized
To be at your best every day, don’t prepare your things the morning of, or you risk forgetting something. Set aside fifteen minutes each evening, instead of watching your favorite show, to perfect your carefully ironed outfit and pack your bag so you don’t forget anything. Go to bed at regular, and if possible, reasonable hours to be in good shape the next morning. Set your alarm fifteen minutes earlier and have a proper breakfast. This isn’t the time to skip the one that will give you all the energy you need to be at your best throughout the day. If you’re a woman, a touch of makeup will brighten your day, but keep it simple; there’s no need to use your entire palette. You’ll be there to work, not on a shopping trip with your friends.
Ask questions
Yes indeed! Your internship will allow you to learn new things. So don’t hesitate, no question is silly as long as it can enrich your knowledge of this desired profession. Your supervisor will be delighted to see your interest in it.
Please note
Don’t make the mistake that many unfortunately try to make. Take notes regularly; they will be very useful for writing your internship report. Having an excellent memory is great, but keep in mind that you won’t be able to remember everything, especially if your internship is long. Write down the tasks you were given, the work you were shown, the things you were taught—everything is worth noting. So don’t hesitate to carry a small notepad and pencil with you wherever you go.
Don’t back down from anything
Often, when you first join a company, during those first few days, your employer will want to test you. You won’t necessarily be doing the tasks you expected. Serving coffee, cleaning the hair salon… Sure, you don’t usually jump at the chance to do these kinds of jobs, but they’re generally crucial in helping you land assignments you’re truly willing to take on. This will allow them to see your real motivation and your commitment to completing all tasks. So smile and play along. You’ll come out of it happier. It’s a rough patch, but it’ll be over soon, you’ll see.
Go all the way
In some cases, your internship may not go as planned. But don’t give up. Keep going. All that matters in these circumstances is that you complete the required number of hours to validate your program, and if the grade is poor, explain why to your instructor. Above all, inform your institution of any problems; they might be able to help.
Revive the business
Once your internship is over, don’t hesitate to contact the company again. If they were impressed by your talent during your time in the workplace, they may have an opening for you, either for another internship or a full-time position. Go ahead and do it; it won’t cost you anything extra. In fact, you might even come out ahead.
You are now ready to successfully complete your professional immersion. Ladies and gentlemen, get to your internships!
